The album contains four lengthy pieces which take in Mike Hyder’s broad songwriting style, adventurous arrangements & meticulous production.
Genre hopping through classic hard rock, psychedelia, folk, blues, a hint of jazz, a dash of country, exhilarating symphonic passages, multi-layered guitar orchestrations & vocal harmonies, seamlessly woven together with a pop sensibility.

Latest album by THE TREAT.
'Lepers & Deities'
This is the group’s long awaited and much anticipated fourth album, and follow up to their critically acclaimed ‘Audio Verite/Deceptive Blends’ album three years ago.
A broad sweep of styles and musical colours can be heard on THE TREAT’s latest album, something we have come to expect by now from this colourful, eccentric, intensely creative and fiercely independent progressive group. From the acoustic flavoured, protest Prog-Folk of ‘Falcon & the Iron Rain’ to the gorgeous, heartfelt, yet muscular, British R’n’B flavoured love song ‘Sparkle’, via the power chord, ‘Who’ influenced Classic Rock of ‘Headcase Baby’ (replete with it’s Psychedelic, Syd era Floyd keyboard solo), the Neo-Folk rock of ‘Little Treasures’ and glorious 60’s tinged Pop sensibilities of ‘Valerie’. Also, the title track, ‘Lepers & Deities’, begins with it’s Yes influenced guitar harmonics and builds into a mini epic, using Mellotrons, neo-Gregorian chants and rich, arabesque, cascading Violins. Simply quite breathtaking!
On ‘Lepers & Deities’, THE TREAT’s songwriter, Mike Hyder, is at the top of his game, writing his best collection of songs so far. He uses a wide spectrum of Acoustic and Electric Guitars to paint a distinctive sonic spectrum : the Acoustics form the bedrock of the songs, interweaving in and out of the mixes, with flourishes of tasteful Electric Guitar played with a sense of scale, economy and taste. THE TREAT’s Multi-instrumentalist, Dave Hart has added more instruments to THE TREAT’s sound. Accordion, Glockenspiel and Vibratone are heard for the first time on a TREAT album, as is the Harp (played by MH) and Violin, played by guest, Flora Curson, a brilliant newcomer to the Prog scene. Dom Lash, renowned as the least flamboyant member of THE TREAT, shows off a wide range of Bass duties, performing on both Double Bass, as well as Electric, weaving his subtle magic from Hard Rock, through Jazz and Folk flavourings, all the way to the incredibly funky bass lines on ‘My Old School’.
The band as a whole have never sounded better, showing they are equally adept at tackling fast paced rockers, such as ‘Headcase Baby’, as much as they are on more reflective pieces, such as ‘Falcon & the Iron Rain’.
THE TREAT effortlessly halve and double tempos and change keys mid-song, for extra dynamics, while retaining momentum and groove, as amply demonstrated on ‘Bougainvillaeas In The Sand’, ’Little Treasures’ and ’Valerie’ (with it’s Ukrainian Folk inspired middle section). The group’s ability to construct arrangements, displaying light and shade, soft and loud soundscapes is equally apparent on tracks such as ‘SPT’, which begins as an acoustic Psyche-Folk piece and builds into a gargantuan, sonic electric assault, part Led Zep styled blues stomper, part jazz-folk tinged classic era Jethro Tull. Mmmm!. Delicious.
This release is absolutely essential listening for any music lover in 2012, who has a love of Classic Rock and Progressive stylings in the broad sense, with an added dash of Psychedelia. If there is one TREAT album you should have, then ‘Lepers & Deities’ is the one ! All of it performed, produced and presented in the unique style of THE TREAT for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
