Is Rock Music Still Relevant Today?

Rock music may be said to have actually reached its heyday in the late 70s and early 80s. However, surprisingly it is still a popular genre. There are numerous bands keen to emulate their heroes, but with a modern twist. New talents such as Imagine Dragons continue to emerge, and their legendary status stems from being the first band to hold the top four spots in the Billboard rock chart. Even hip-hop and rap artists have introduced a guitar-based sound into their songs.

Progressive and Classic Rock

As well as the up and coming new progressive rock bands, the older groups show no signs of slowing down. Take a look at King Crimson, for example. Initially formed in August 1967, they have released 13 studio albums and 15 live albums. Classic rock is also still alive and kicking, and bands such as AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Deep Purple continue to sell thousands of records. New bands such as Greta Van Fleet have been favourably compared to Led Zeppelin.

Psychedelic and Folk-Rock

Although psychedelic rock originated in the 60s with the likes of Pink Floyd and Procul Harum, its unusual sounds still attract a vast fanbase today. The folk-rock genre continues to evolve to ensure it is still as relevant today as it was when Bob Dylan penned his iconic songs.

Rock music will undoubtedly continue to thrive, whether it be progressive, classic, psychedelic or folk-rock.
